BULLYING
If you have yet to see it, the Privacy
Commissioner of Ontario has put together an excellent one pager for students on
how to keep their privacy when on Facebook. (How to Protect Your Privacy on
Facebook) Though such safe practice won’t stop the bullying, it might help
students to not reveal to the public any information that they really wish would
be kept confidential – and thereby reduce the information that others have to
use against them. The page is available on the website
www.ipc.on.ca. They also have a great booklet
promoting privacy on social networking sites called Think Safety, When Online
Gets out of Line. Call 416 326 3333 for copies.

Allergy
Alert at Clearmeadow!
There are a number of children in our school with severe to life-threatening
allergies. Some of the most significant triggers are:
peanuts & peanut products, eggs, shellfish, bee stings and latex
Families are requested not to send shared whole class snacks for birthday
celebrations (especially cupcakes, cakes, cookies, donuts, baked goods
containing eggs and/or peanuts).
Families are asked to consider non-food items for celebrations and rewards so
that all children may participate in the fun.
We are also making a special effort to be a “scent aware” school as many
airborne sprays can cause severe and unpleasant reactions. Students are
instructed not to bring any sprays (deodorant, cologne, hair spray…) to school.
Clearmeadow is an allergy aware school. We thank you for your continuing support
as we endeavour to keep all of our children safe.

Fire Drill & Code Red
September 2007: Our first fire
drill was done in 2 minutes and 40 seconds – the students and staff were simply
amazing! The building emptied quietly, calmly and efficiently!
The code red drill was equally impressive. A Code Red Drill is intended to
practice school responses to emergency situations. The purpose of the Code Red
response is to minimize risk to students and staff or to facilitate the work of
emergency personnel in the case of a real emergency for which school evacuation
is not a practical solution. The code red drill is used in the event of an armed
intruder.
During our Code Red Drill we had total lock down of all classrooms! The students
were very serious about the drill and cooperated fully to ensure that everyone
was safe.
During both drills our students responded in a very responsible manner and
demonstrated a level of understanding necessary for our school to respond to
emergency situations if ever required.
